What kind of therapy are you in?

Postby Moment on Wed Aug 20, 2008 3:42 pm

I was just wondering what kind of therapy other people are in. And what works? For how long have you been in it?

I just speak to my pdoc once in a while, but we're talking about getting me in some *real* therapy. I just don't know what!

I'm in a support group, we meet twice a week. It's really cool 'cos it helps me socialize and get friends, and to understand things better. We do all kinds of things - coaching, different activities, talk. It really helps.

Hope you find something that works. I would recommend finding a support group of some kind, even if you do other kinds of therapy too.

I think the most promising form of therapy is psychosocial therapy. It's pretty extensive and is mostly used with people suffering from schizophrenia. You'd have to be a little lucky to get into that kind of therapy, but maybe you can talk to your psychiatrist about applying some aspects of it.

Psychosocial therapy includes:

# Illness management skills
# Integrated treatment for co-occurring substance abuse
# Rehabilitation
# Family education
# Cognitive-behavioral therapy
# Self-help groups

You can read more about it here.

Let us know what you decide.

I don't have access to that kind if therapy, but I've heard about it. Psychiatrist thinks I should learn CBT, has anyone tried it and found it useful?

I think I fit well for the sp.
Just want to share.
I am not in the terapy but I've been doing "Social Freedom Exercise" Sheet by Brad P. And suggest to any of you.
Do it with your friends or for a better effect alone [being spd you have an extra kick from doing this alone].
(I did the whole worksheet and it really makes you more secure aka less anxious. The thing is just not to think but to act aka "Just do it!")

in psychoanalytical (also called psychodynamic). am quite satisfied. Helps me to look at myself, my conflicts, my weaknesses and see things which I wouldn't be able to notice or understand myself. In the very beginning therapist woked a bit in a supportive manner. This therapy extensifies understending of myself and it helps in understending the outer world.

It feels like mind control. I've made efforts but always quit after average of 3 sessions. experts on me? Why would I trust this person? And oh boy the ones I've had, ones forced to see for evaluations and stuff. Dehumanizing, makes you feel like a smudge

lmao mind control?

Anyway, I didnt like CBT, personally. I was in it when I was first diagnosed when I was 16 (was in in about 2 years). I didnt improve any, and it wasnt any fun. But now that Im older (21) I just want somebody neutral to talk to. So instead of a CBT, I go to a Licensed Counselor. I just started a new one last week after the last one (was with him for 2-3 years) threatened to kick me out...so I left.

Hmm...they threatened to throw you out? I thought the idea was to help you, not say "Okay, you bug me, see ya later!". Either way, i hope the therapy situation is better for you right now.

He threatened to kick me out because of money. Like most "normal" human beings money holds a great deal, like how you treat people. But I canned him and now have a good, respectable counselor.
