HELLO I AM NEW

Postby abigail on Sat Apr 25, 2009 7:28 am

Hello. :) My name's Abigail. I'm 16-years-old and I really have absolutely no idea if I have Schizotypal Personality Disorder, but I guess I have some odd beliefs and routines. I have OCD, so I'm not sure if the routines are related to that, but I also sometimes feel people touching me when they aren't. Also, when I'm going to bed, I feel like there's someone by my bed, and when I close my eyes, I feel like they've got their hand on my neck or somewhere and are for example trying to choke me or suck my blood. I know that sounds really odd. I can also smell things that aren't there sometimes. I also believe sometimes that I'm walking, or at least I think, perhaps I am not walking, but the earth just moves as I'm walking and just so happens to go in the same direction as I am. Meaning that I'm always in the same spot. Is this a symptom of Schizotypal Personality Disorder? I sometimes speak in a rather formal way, and I'm almost always severely depressed.

Thank you to anyone that responds.

Hello Abigail,

Welcome :)

It does indeed sound like you could have Schizotypal Disorder, but we're not mental health professionals here, so no-one here is going to be able to tell you if that's really the case. Better to see a pdoc about these things. Are you seeing/going to see a pdoc/tdoc?

It's a good thing you're here, and it's good you're aware of these things, at such a young age. My symptoms began at around 16, but it took me several years to look for proper health care. I would've been better off, had I just nipped it in the bud back then.

This could qualify as a perceptual disturbance, which is a symptom of StPD, but again - you should really see a pdoc to sort these things out.

Nope, I'm not seeing any doctors or counselors or anything, and I really can't. But hi, and thank you. :) I know that no one can diagnose me here, but I don't really care about being diagnosed. I like going to tons and tons of forums and just meeting people who are nice. I seem to have some symptoms of SD.

I've had these thoughts and thoughts of people reading my mind, and hearing distant voices for as long as I can remember, though. When I was like 4, I used to jump up and down because I was trying to figure out if you happened to step in the exact same spot on earth as you did before, you'd die. That sounds a bit odd, I guess.

The idea that the Earth might be moving instead of you, that just seems like a philosophical thought. I wouldn't worry about that too much, I get those thoughts as well. I sometimes experience blackouts that last for less than a second and sometimes when I drink too much coffee sounds scare me and I feel very afraid. I hope your hallucinations disappear.

Ecco.

Hi Abigail,

Just do a personality disorder test, sounds like you one of us that a good thing because most of us are creative thinkers I am not sure about the drug induced ones thou.

What about friends any issues?

Also do a Schizotypal test to get a break down - other problems is that some of the personality traits may rarely affect you while others are permanent.

Do you mean one of those on the internet? They're crap and only to be used for entertainment - not that I could imagine anyone finding them funny. Don't rely on some internet test to give you a diagnosis.

Hi Abigail,

I don't know about your specific perceptual distortions but I can commiserate on the feeling of your reality not quite syncing up with what everyone tells you is reality...it gets really confusing when doctors start putting you and taking you off medications, I would avoid it if possible, if you are not a danger to anyone then I would recommend just getting psychotherapy...or getting a really good reference for a psychiatrist, because a lousy one can screw you up.
