Group therapy: any good?

Postby cmj on Wed Sep 24, 2008 4:50 pm

Has anyone here been in group therapy? I've been offered to join a group in a few weeks, but I'm not so sure about it. What kind of stuff do you talk about?

I'm a little concerned on behalf of the people who will be in my group, because I'm not always so nice to be around if I get annoyed with people (ie: having to listen to them whine and feel sorry for themselves), and I'm afraid I'll say something nasty to them or lose my patience. I know it doesn't sound so nice, but it's the truth. As you can probably guess, I also have a problem opening up to people, especially in a group, and I'm afraid I'll be pressured to open up during group sessions.

I'd like to hear from anyone, what's it like in group therapy?

I personally never liked it much. I went to a group where we had to practice social skills with each other, and it just seemed so constructed and forced. I ended up leaving. Maybe I'd like group therapy if it was about something else.
