medication and sport

Postby Loronzo on Tue May 05, 2009 8:51 pm

have been taking serequel and different antidepresants but I found that it's hard to mix them (especially antipsychotics) with sport activities. For me it was running, light athletics, tae kwon do. It seems as a too much load for a heart, sometimes a reaction delayed.
Any other experiences, solutions?

If you feel like the meds are affecting your heart, it really is something to talk to your doctor about. Do you get EEGs regularly?

No, I don't do EEg regularly.
Docter said agreed that antipsychotics can affect my results. And it seems I have to choose from taking a medicine or doing sports. Also weight gaining is there.
I don't use any medicine for a while, it's harder to concentrate but running gives a pleasure in life which seems too boring.

Have you tried Abilify? Maybe you could talk to your doctor about switching, if you're thinking of going completely off Seroquel. I don't know how Abilify works combined with sports, but it's activating rather than sedating, and you don't gain weight on it. In fact, it is sometimes prescribed for depression as well. Worth a try maybe?
Diagnosis: schizotypal disorder, depression
Meds: Abilify 20 mg

EKG, yes I've done it some 2 years ago. I also insisted on EKG with a physical load (not sure of the term - it's EKG measured while on bicycle), no serious problems were detected.
Perhaps I should visit cardiologist, do the testing again.

I still want to find out - is here anybody on medicine and doing sports?
