Magical thinking vs MagicKal thinking

Postby mgcklyntz on Tue Jan 06, 2009 1:57 am

The difference between the two at first seem very slim, but when you apply certain methods presented in a very few systems you will come to find them very different. Yes, I do go through episodes of magical thinking, but I also apply a proccess I consider rather scientific. Here's the difference between the two: Magical thinking is akin to the laymans superstision, whereas Magic(k)al thinking is about repeated expieraments with repeatable results once you master a technique. Yes, scientific method and magick really really should go hand in hand for us schizotypal types. Even in the field of science we can tend towards superstition (ie. go over the sound barrier and you'll be smashed by the wind). When aproaching any system that you feel has no scientific backing, or is full of supersticious beliefs, then you must sift out the BS and use that scientific method until you find your results to show a good average of results. Yes, this can be done with expieriencial data, but you really gotta be careful with that one. For that I suggest studying yourself using meditation and other methods taught by eastern paths. Still caution is highly adviced in these explorations, take notes and go over them just to be sure you weren't going through a moment of correlation or superstition.

This is just an idea by the by, something I have known for the longest, but never really wrote about because I just thought it common sense (a rare commodity these days). Now I have come to learn over time that there really are a bunch of fluffy peoples in any group. I also suggest using this idea for any other situations where people are taking things on faith in whoever or whatever and they don't back up anything they say.

K, any questions, comments or critiques are welcome.

Logic definitely plays a part in magick. Have you heard of chaos magick; you might be interested in it, because it involves a lot of meditation...

I have meditated before, but not sure if it's right. I feel like I'm floating away and see colours, that's it, what do you experience when you meditate? (question open to all).

I also like to listen to music when I meditate, especially zen music or Gorecki. I have felt out of time, in timelessness, when I've listened to Gorecki, it was wonderful.
